Introduction Education Trust One of the special features of the Trust is there is the opportunity to see some of the impact of your donations. Whether it is the RCIA candidates, the religious education students, children from Holy Redeemer’s school, or the youth group currently collecting funds to provide food for the poor this cold “souper bowl” Sunday, the Trust has had the opportunity to support them, again because your generous contributions. However, as always, the needs are many, but the resources are limited. I ask you to think of the Trust when you see the monthly envelope, but don’t look at it as a request for a donation. Look at it as in invitation; an invitation to touch people we see every day, as well as those we may never know, and an opportunity to leave a lasting impact on our parish, neighborhood, and world. There are many ways to contribute, such as estate planning, memorial gifts, or monthly contributions. There are people that can discuss all the options for contributions in the parish office so feel free to stop by or call. All I ask is that you use the monthly envelopes when making a cash contribution to ensure you get credit for your donation when you file your 2007 taxes, even if it is for one, five, or ten dollars. Now I know a dollar doesn’t sound like it can make much of a difference, but there was once an owner of a general store who purchased a barrel from a couple moving out of state. Underneath the clothes, shoes, and rags, was a book, “Blackstone’s Commentaries on Law”, required reading for those wishing to become lawyers. The owner read the book in between the store’s infrequent shoppers, and, as you might guess, the store failed. However, he continued to study, became a lawyer, a state legislator, and, eventually, the sixteenth President of the United States. When asked how much he paid for the barrel, Abraham Lincoln said “about half a dollar”. It doesn’t matter what we contribute, but that we do it as a parish. As a parish member for almost fifteen years, I have seen the great things our parish can do and I ask that we support the Education Trust Fund together to make a lasting, positive impact for generations to come. Thank you. Michael Amberg Holy Redeemer Educational Trust Fund Trustee
